Montessori explained to my sister

Dear sister ,

As your son approaches three years of age, I see you touring the city's schools every day. You talk to teachers, directors, educational advisors and even nurses. Anxious to find the best formula for "dada", you talk about pedagogy, methodology, early stimulation, the school environment, etc.

One important detail seems to have escaped you, however: the essential skills for life and development have already been acquired by your son.

Just like any child before school, he talks, eats, walks, expresses his moods and guesses the moods of others. Yet no teacher sat him down to tell him the rules of walking, he didn't read a methodology manual for eating and not once did you have to tell him "this is how we talk".

The essentials of life need not be taught. Not in a classroom anyway. Everyone with eyes, ears and a brain sees, hears and understands naturally and then reproduces what is done around him. The best educator according to Maria Montessori is the one who knows how to show the way so that the child learns by doing.

Maria Montessori was an Italian doctor who worked for a long time with children with mental retardation. Her experience with them taught her that everyone has a natural ability to learn new things .

Maria Montessori in 1913.

This inspired the pedagogy that bears his name. The Montessori method is a teaching method based on the sensory education of the child. The function of the educator, with a so-called normal child, is to cultivate the child's desire to discover and learn, at his or her own pace and independently.

To date, more than 20,000 schools worldwide use the Montessori pedagogy, which is classified as new education. A non-exhaustive list of personalities who have attended Montessori schools includes Google founders Sergei Brin and Larry Page, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
